In early 2007 we like most of you were parents of an energetic toddler with a zest for life and we wanted to find a sporting activity for him. After trying a few different activities we quickly realised that there was a gap in the market for HIGH QUALITY Pre-School Sports Development and definitely nothing with a rugby inspiration.

With over 20 years rugby coaching experience at youth, senior and county level Andrew dreamed that we could develop a rugby inspired sports programme for pre-school children.

Over the next few months RUGGERBUGS was born and on the 22nd July 2007 we launched our first centre in Harlow, Essex. The response to RUGGERBUGS was amazing and by Easter 2008 we were running 4 centres and had a fantastic feature done on us in Rugby World Magazine (Nov 08). Over the past 10 years we have grown the company to 20 centres throughout Essex, Herts, Cambridgeshire, Kent and London. We have been fortunate to have RUGGERBUGS as our full time job since November 2011 allowing us to fully focus on RUGGERBUGS full time!

We have a fabulous team of 40+ coaches who deliver the programme on a weekly basis and a team of 4 at head office who administer and supply the programme to schools and nurseries in / around East Herts and West Essex.

As a company we have made a conscious decision not to mass franchise the business but remain family focused with children at the heart of what we do. Our aim is simple… “to positively introduce children to sport from a young age” and “to support grass roots rugby” through our network of associated rugby clubs. RUGGERBUGS is quite simply unique with a genuine history.

We are a major innovator of this expanding market place and our constantly evolving “Head Start”TM Programme continues to set us apart from the competition as market leaders. In recent years we have become Fully Gold Accredited members of the Childrens Activities Association (CAA) and are seen as market leaders by Saracens the double European Champions.

“Sidney” Safe-Hands our unique logo has taken on a character of his own and looks forward to seeing how much FUN the RUGGERBUGS have each week. The children just love him and he is now a clearly recognised brand!

We have a special association with RHINO Rugby and are the only company to have this type of relationship ensuring our RUGGERBUGS have the best bespoke rugby ball available to play with in class and at home and also ensures our families receive the highest quality merchandise available. Whilst taking our inspiration from rugby, we do not teach children how to play rugby but agree with the RFU that the rugby is a late developing sport (School Year 2). We therefore focus on “introducing children to sport” by developing and enhancing their physical and social skills in a FUN and positive environment through our rugby inspired skills, drills and games. Our hope is that by the time our RUGGERBUGS graduate they have already developed a love of rugby and the transition into mini-rugby is a natural progression, with a little Head Start into the great game. At the same time we recognise that rugby is not for everyone but the uniqueness of our programme means the skills learnt can be transferred to any sport.

So what does the future hold? Our main aim is to keep doing what we do BEST and then doing it BETTER! but more importantly ensuring each and every child has a FUN and positive introduction to sport from a young age. Our message is simple “Give your child a Head Start”. HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY RUGGERBUGS, we are so proud of what you stand for and the REAL difference you make to each child.
